LED technology is coming to the cities of Alentejo.
In a joint initiative promoted by AREANATejo and CIMAA (Inter Community of Alto Alentejo), and included in the ILUPub project, the installation of UrbanLED luminaires in 4 municipalities in the district of Portalegre will soon be a reality.
The first "LED Street" will be inaugurated on November 17th in the town of Castelo de Vide, followed by the municipalities of Portalegre, Marvão and Sousel on the 2nd, 4th and 10th of December correspondingly.
The streets that will allow householders to look at the night in a different way will be: Rua de Santo António (Castelo de Vide), Rua das Forças Armadas (Portalegre), Rua da Portagem (Marvão) and Rua do Convento (Sousel).
Inaugurations will have the presence of the political executives of the according municipalities and promoters, AREANATejo, CIMAA and EnergiaViva.
Thus carrying out a pioneering project in this Portuguese district, where the LED street lighting is understood to be an effective way to reduce energy consumption, as well as a way of preserving the environment surrounding this beautiful region of the country.

Project ILUPub

Project "ILUPub - "Melhoria da Eficiência Energética da Iluminação Pública" (Improvement of Energetic Efficiency in Street Lighting) is being developed in North Alentejo by CIMAA - and AREANATejo (Regional Agency for Energy and Environment of North Alentejo and Tagus), and will have the cooperation of EDP.
ILUPub is structured in several distinct and complementary stages, and in the first step, now completed, an accounting of IP energy consumption and terrain recognition (GIS) were carried out.
The second step, currently underway, is the characterization of the IP network of urban areas (geo scale 1:2000), using digital mapping already developed by CIMAA and using GIS software for mobile devices (PDA) in integration with global positioning systems (GPS).
The third deals with the identification of best solutions to be adopted and in this context some LED luminaires will be installed, in the beginning of December, in the municipalities of Castelo de Vide, Marvão, Portalegre and Sousel.
