The concept of LED street lighting, being both modern and innovative would inevitably have to go through the test of successfully responding to a major lighting project ... and it did!
EnergiaViva does not hide its pride in performing the first major LED street lighting project in Europe: more than 200 luminaires, in the motorway junction situated in Angeja (near the municipal stadium of Aveiro), along with reduction in consumption (50%) and better lighting quality.
Aenor completed the final set of the Costa de Prata concession with a total length of 13 kilometers, linking Estarreja to Angeja on the A29 motorway. The end of the job brought Portugal an alternative between Lisbon and Oporto.

The second largest motorway operator in Portugal has, in this latter stage, chosen to grant Costa de Prata with UrbanLED in a pilot project perspective, and of course with the purpose of evaluating the solution for use in future concessions.

UrbanLED is presented as naturally attractive to the private market for its distinct commitment to reliability. Keeping in view the maintenance of concessions is something that gains importance keeping in mind the discomfort that the replacement of lamps, ballasts and luminaires understandably causes the road users. Thus, UrbanLED avoids the need for any maintenance on the Angeja junction in the next 14 years, and reveals to be a tool for a better user service.

The best lighting quality is something obvious along the entire length of the junction. It will be impossible for any road user not be surprised by the high level of color rendering. The white light generated by full cut off lamps gives this section of the motorway a characteristic ambience.

UrbanLED Solution Flexibility:
EnergiaViva confirmed the opportunity to apply UrbanLED in the Angeja junction when the location of poles and their heights were already optimized for conventional solutions (high pressure sodium vapor,); the result shows the capacity to apply UrbanLED on pre-designed installations for other solutions.

Financial Savings
The use of 105 UrbanLED80 lamps to replace 150W sodium vapor lamps and 115 UrbanLED160 to replace 250W HPS lamps allows a considerable saving on consumption.
In addition to consumption saving, there is obviously the saving of many bulbs and other auxiliary equipment for over 14 years of the UrbanLED lifetime without needing any intervention.

Savings consumption: 1342.2 MWh
Financial savings by reducing consumption: 153 201 € (considering the annual update of the rate of 3%)

CO2 reduction
The UrbanLED directly contributes to a healthier and more sustainable environment. In Angeja the emission of over 40 tons of CO2 per year is being avoided.
